winners of the Inspirational Women's Awards 2018

Amazing guest speakers who will share their journey as you discover more about our 2018 inspirational winners.
 
The guest speakers include:
  • Louise Azzopardi – Diesel (Heavy Vehicle) Mechanic, SALT Apprenticeship Ambassador and successful WorldSkills competitor, about What Has My Career in Heavy Machinery Maintenance Led To?  
  • Detective Superintendent Deborah Wallace – NSW Police, about Inspirational Challenges and Making a Difference.

These awards recognise service to the community across all sectors. Directed at the non-Rotary community, it is about commitment, dedication, perseverance and proactivity in improving the lives of others across NSW and the ACT.
Often women, especially in country and regional NSW and ACT are the "quiet achievers" whose actions inspire others and make a difference in their communities.
 
The Awards cover 2 key categories inclusive of Rural, City Urban and Volunteer for each category:
  • Young Inspirational Woman of the Year for the 18-30 years 
  • Inspirational Woman of the Year for the 30+ years 
Finalists are selected from each category, resulting in 2 overall winners:
  • Young Inspirational Woman of the Year
  • Inspirational Woman of the Year
An exemplary number of applications ensured the panel of independent judges from Rotary Districts were challenged as they assessed the three key criteria:
  • Community service which best exemplifies Rotary’s motto of Service Above Self 
  • Achievements
  • Personal attributes
* Your ticket purchase and proceeds from this event will support an Australian Rotary Health Scholarship for a young female GP by assisting with expenses during her 12 month placement in a Rural GP practice.
** Opting to incur the administration costs related to the issue of this ticket/s results in Rotary Health receiving those proceeds.

Louise Azzopardi  Deborah Wallace
Louise Azzopardi is a lively 22 year old who continues to live in Western Sydney and a qualified heavy vehicle mechanic.
To date, Louise has achieved 3 training awards.
As a 4th year apprentice her mentor recommended she compete in the NSW Regional WorldSkills trades competition. Louise achieved a sound second place and was selected to compete in the 2016 Australian National WorldSkills competition, competing against other heavy vehicle mechanics from across Australia.
She was the first female to compete in the heavy vehicle category and the first to win! Louise represented the Australian heavy vehicle mechanics at the International WorldSkills competition in Abu Dhabi in 2017, gaining a 4th and a Medallion of Excellence.
Louise is a committee member of SALT (Supporting and Linking Tradeswomen)		Deborah Wallace is a member of the NSW Police for more than 38 years. She is currently serving as Detective Superintendent Commander, Criminal Groups and Strike Force Raptor.
Her NSW Police career commenced as a Probationary Constable at Blacktown leading to Chief Inspector (Crime Manager) at Cabramatta Local Area Command and eventually today’s position.
Deborah has developed specialist expertise relating to gangs through working in the area of Asian Crime both at a Local Area Command and organised Crime level for 15 years. She has developed a significant understanding of cultural issues as they relate to and impact on communities of Asian and Middle Eastern background as well as the dynamics, culture of Outlaw Motor Cycle Gangs.
Over the years Deborah Wallace has had significant achievements from 1995 to today including disruption and dismantling of the Cabramatta street gang known as ‘5T’.
