A welcome event was held recently for new Rotarians in the District.
Here are some of their comments.
Here are the answers attendees gave when asked the question, why they joined Rotary:
  • So much that I love – inspiration, social justice, world peace, power of the individual to create change
  • Because I love volunteering, helping the community, especially polio. Friendships. Help others
  • For the wellbeing of the community and planet
  • Coming from a refugee background, I wanted to help others
  • To work with others, to positively impact others in the community
  • To serve the community and friendships
  • To give back to the community
  • Meet like-minded people with good core values and learn from veterans. Widen the reach with 1.2m Rotary people worldwide. To find my tribe.
  • To help with Medical Repurposing – practical things like that
  • To help the community
  • I wanted to give back to community here and overseas
  • Belief in the core value – service before self, AND my uncle is a Rotary president in Nepal
  • My whole adult life has been involved helping people. I met Janice, these are Rotarians, so I wanted to be one too
  • Via the Smith Family. Do something to support students, so aligned to Rotary
  • Opportunity to give back to local and international community
  • Moved from JCI International. Enjoy the collegiality
  • Lot of needs in the community to serve – elderly, refugees. Care enough to support and make a difference.
  • Passion for mental health and homelessness. Grass roots approach of Rotary
  • Helping with like-minded people. Found happiness and excitement there
  • With Salvation Army – fellowships and community service.

And from Mary Ghribian from Granville, who was asked to give a short presentation:
  • Rotary provides ordinary people with the opportunity to do extraordinary things and become extraordinary themselves
  • Opportunity to express my passions
  • Serve the community and make a difference
  • Friendships and fellowships/networks
  • Opportunities to empower others
  • Inspires me. Actions change hearts. To be a citizen of the world. Endless possibilities.
