DISTRICT NEWS - NOVEMBER 2025

November is the Rotary Foundation Month.

Since 1917, The Rotary Foundation has been the engine that drives Rotary International’s mission to create lasting change — across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.

Through the generosity of Rotarians and friends worldwide, the Foundation funds life-changing projects that promote peace, save the environment, fight disease, provide clean water, support education, save mothers and children, and grow local economies.

Message from your District Governor:

Dear Rotary Presidents, Club Leaders, and Fellow Rotarians,
Greetings from Renga!

It is with immense pride, gratitude, and optimism that I welcome you to the fifth edition of our District Bulletin for the Rotary Year 2025–26.

November is a special month for us it is Rotary Foundation Month, a time dedicated to deepening our understanding of the incredible impact of The Rotary Foundation (TRF) and strengthening our commitment to support its life-changing work.
For more than a century, our Foundation has been the engine behind Rotary’s mission advancing peace, fighting disease, providing clean water and sanitation, supporting education, growing local economies, and saving mothers and children across the globe. Your contributions truly transform lives.

End Polio Train Ride – A Remarkable Success
A heartfelt thank you to every club and individual who participated in or supported the End Polio Train Ride on 23–24 October 2025.Both the Illawarra and Greater Sydney Metro train rides covering every station were executed with passion and purpose. Together with District 9685, our combined effort has raised just over $114,000. With the generous matching support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, this impact triples to over A$300,000, bringing us significantly closer to wiping polio from the face of the earth. Your commitment continues to inspire the world.

This collective effort demonstrates our district’s unity, strength, and commitment to supporting Rotary’s global mission. As we celebrate Rotary Foundation Month, I encourage every club to promote, contribute, and engage with our Foundation. Every dollar we give brings hope, dignity, and opportunity to someone, somewhere.
Thank you for your continued dedication to Create Hope in the World. Let us keep the momentum strong as we move forward in service.

ROMAC Update

It has been a busy couple of months for ROMAC volunteers with the arrival in September of 7-year-old Maradona and his mother Ella from the Solomon Islands.
On 17 September, Maradona underwent surgery at The Children’s Hospital, Westmead, for the removal of a foreign object (the tip of a reef fish) embedded in his orbital cavity. The injury occurred when Maradona was struck by a reef fish while leaning over the side of his family's fishing boat.

Eye surgeon Dr Krishna Tumuluri and neurosurgeon Dr Gemma Olsson were very pleased with the outcome and optimistic about Maradona’s recovery. He was discharged from hospital on 21 September. Maradona and Ella then enjoyed a few days at Ronald McDonald House, Westmead, before receiving medical clearance to return home to the Solomon Islands on Friday, 26 September.
A heartfelt thank you goes to the dedicated medical team at Westmead Children’s Hospital and the compassionate staff at RMH Westmead for their outstanding care and support.

On October 14th Melenaite and her mother Michelle arrived from Tonga. Since her arrival as a 7½-week-old baby they have had frequent visits to the Sydney Children’s Hospital at
Randwick.  Melanaite is under the care of Urologist Dr. Sarah Giutronich and underwent surgery for a cystoscopy and urodynamics.  The procedure was to assess Melanaite’s bladder control.  Dr. Sarah is please with her progress.
I always enjoy updating Rotary Clubs about our wonderful work.  A big thank you goes out to the Rotary Club of Concord for their recent invitation to join them and for their warm welcome and generous support for ROMAC.

We are eager to visit more Rotary & Rotaract clubs to provide insight into ROMAC and how you can help improve the lives of children like Maradona and Melanaite.

Please contact Anita Robinson; anitagrobinson@outlook.com or Jennifer Pedley at connaljenny@yahoo.com.au to schedule a visit.
