Understanding tags
How Tags Work in ClubRunner Nova
Tags in ClubRunner Nova are labels you can assign to members, contacts, events, or content to help organise and filter information more easily. Think of tags as digital labels that group people or items together without changing their official role or committee assignment.
What Tags Are Used For?
Tags can be used to:
- Create targeted email groups (e.g. “Fundraising Team”, “Movie Night Volunteers”)
- Filter members for reports
- Identify interest groups or project teams
- Track participation in programs or initiatives
- Organise content or events internally
Why Use Tags?
- Tags are flexible and easy to update. Unlike committees or roles, they:
Don’t affect governance structure - Can be added or removed quickly
- Allow overlapping groups (a member can have multiple tags)
- Help with targeted communication
Best Practice
- Use clear, consistent naming (e.g. “2026 Movie Night Volunteers”)
- Avoid creating too many similar tags
- Review tags annually and remove outdated ones
If you can’t see tag management options, your role may not include permission to manage them — your ClubRunner Administrator can adjust access if needed.
Tags are flexible labels you assign to members to create groups without changing their role or committee. They are ideal for projects, events, and targeted communication.
Tags vs Committees vs Roles
| Feature | Tags | Committees | Roles |
| Purpose | Flexible grouping | Working groups | System permissions |
| Affects permissions? | No | Sometimes | Yes |
| Best for | Projects & events | Ongoing structure | Authority & access |
How to Create & Apply a Tag
- Log into the Member Area.
- Go to Members → Manage Tags (menu wording may vary).
- Create a new tag with a clear name.
- Open a member record and assign the tag.
- Use tags when sending targeted emails.
Naming tip: Use structured names like “2026 Open Air Cinema Volunteers” and review tags annually.
